ACTIVE PROJECT: M-2 PROGRESS REPORT

As of: 5/3/03 The old bathroom, which corroded and rotted, has new walls installed. A new bathroom has been constructed at the other end, as originally built before the Susquehanna made it known it didn't want it, but has a sliding door. A lot of trim pieces must now be replaced throughout the car. Along with the replaced aluminum facing on the exhaust duct walls, except for the trim, all these surfaces have their first coat of color paint. The next big item is to replace the floor. Work is now on hold due to priorities with new fleet.

Locomotive #18, (Plymouth) built 1938

18 ton industrial switcher with Cummins diesel (replaced gasoline engine in 1976 at MCC), four speed reversible transmission and chain drive to both axles. Original owner - Drew Chemical, Boonton, NJ.

Status: As of 2-28-04, Number 18 performed its first duties in Butler, pulling #142's tender outside for work. Electrical work continues. Frame repairs and paint will follow later.  Photo: M. Den Bleyker
